Laser Technology Unveils the LTI 20/20 TruSpeed™
- Latest LIDAR device offers accuracy, reliability and credibility to any police department regardless of size -
Centennial, Colo. – Oct. 13, 2007 – Laser Technology, Inc., the company that introduced the first laser speed measuring device to the law enforcement world in 1991, is unveiling its newest product, the LTI 20/20 TruSpeed at the 114th Annual IACP conference in New Orleans.
The TruSpeed, which follows on the heels of the immensely popular Marksman and UltraLyte series laser speed detection devices, is designed to offer laser accuracy and reliability at a price that is within reach of almost any department's budget, regardless of size.
"The accuracy and credibility of laser speed guns, and LTI speed products in particular, has been held up again and again in the field and in the courts,” commented David Williams, CEO of Laser Technology, Inc. “LIDAR (light detecting and ranging) is truly the only technology that effectively distinguishes the speed and direction of a single vehicle in multi-lane traffic. Far better than radar, laser detection gives officers the solid evidence they need when issuing citations."
Noting that 75 percent of the police departments in the U.S. have 25 or fewer officers, Williams said that the TruSpeed was designed to be within the reach of any department’s budget, while maintaining the technical credibility for which LTI is known.
The TruSpeed offers speed accuracy of +/- 1 mph and a range of 2,000 feet. Its proprietary Accuracy Validation Process, which automatically verifies the accuracy of each measurement before it displays, is one of the reasons why Laser Technology products have superior courtroom credibility. The TruSpeed also offers features such as a weather mode, which increases performance in inclement weather; simple operation with dedicated function keys; and a quick self-check, which validates proper internal functionality for operator confidence. It stands up against radar detectors and even laser detectors because by the time they recognize the TruSpeed's signal a speed reading has already been obtained. In addition, the TruSpeed contains advanced circuitry and algorithms that allow it to determine if a laser jammer is being used by displaying a warning code on the rear LCD.
"Perhaps more important than just speed enforcement is a police department's ability to increase the safety on the roads in its community," continued Williams.
"According to the World Health Organization, more than 250,000 Americans, and 7.2 million people worldwide, have died in automobile accidents in the last six years," said Williams. "Speed was a contributing factor in many of those accidents. The TruSpeed has been designed to offer police departments everywhere an important, potentially life-saving tool. Even smaller departments can now increase public awareness with an alternative speed enforcement tool and save lives by making everyone think twice about speeding."
